It was in New Orleans at Jazz Fest in the late 90s, and I was deep into being a serious radio DJ. As Funkadelic trampled the crowd into funky oblivion my mind was busy dissecting the beat structure, locating members of the original lineup and comparing the performance to the vintage vids I’d seen of the band.
Suddenly my friend Sandy bounced into me and chirped “Stop analyzing! Music is supposed to be fun.”
Along with Tim who said. “Never do anything that’s not worthy of you,” and Steve who taught me “Most negativity is unnecessary,” Sandy reminding me to have fun listening to music was some of the best advice anyone’s ever given me. So she’s the one to thank when you close the door to your office and shake your thang to these unpretentious dance hits.
