File under “guilty pleasure.”
Grouplove’s dance pop is anything but complicated.
Frontman Christian Zucconi’s vocal style ranges from angsty folk to pop feelgood to sedated punk rocker.
Robotic and feminine backups kick in, then rock and electronic instruments.
The dance beat is easy and undeniable.
Grouplove’s record Spreading Rumours comes out September 17th.
The video for the song “Ways to Go” dropped this week.
Hannah Hooper and Christian Zucconi are New Yorkers who met on an art residency in Greece on the island of Crete.
In Los Angeles they got together with Ryan Rabin, Andrew Wessen and Sean Gadd. In 2010 the group released their first EP in 2010.
Critically-acclaimed, Grouplove went on tour with Florence and the Machine the next year.
The first full-length Never Trust a Happy Song came out in 2011.
It had a rock-heavy feel and anthemic themes. Here’s “Love Will Save Your Soul.”
In January 2013 Grouplove leaned toward the folky side to contribute to the Girls HBO series soundtrack with the single “Everybody Wants to Get High.”
The group’s mysteriously cancelled shows this summer so check grouplove.com for updates.
