Soulful Swedish electronic pop band Little Dragon started out when two of the members, drummer Erik Bodin and bassist Fredrik Källgren Wallin, asked younger high school student Yukimi Nagano to join the band. Swedish-Japanese singer Yukimi was only 14 years old.

Håkan Wirenstrand, the keyboard player, eventually completed the lineup. Their first record in 2007 brought in elements of psychedelic music, electronic dance and pop. In 2011, it was Yukimi’s understated vocals that took a giant leap of lyrical quality on their album “Ritual Union”.

The lyrics on the first release seemed disjointed, an afterthought…

But the fit of words, delivery and unique pop texture come together on the new release, especially the title track.

Ritual Unions
Got Me
In Trouble Again
I Was Wonderin
How The White Dress
And The Mistress
And His Spirit Are Holdin My Hand

The whole release is good from start to end. And it’s pop (fun, memorable, listenable) without being cliche. Modern too. The electronics are put together in a way that leaves lots of room for the ear.  And Yukimi adds live electronic drum hits when she’s not singing.
The other favorite song from the record is “Little Man”. In this live vid the band talk about what it means to them.
