Influenced by soul legends Marvin Gaye and Smokey Robinson, Mayer’s also inspired by vintage pop acts Steely Dan and Michael Jackson.
His new track “Her Favorite Song” has satisfying soul vocals and funky beats. The video features a modern-day Copacabana and lots of dogs in people suits.
The full album Where Does This Door Go comes out July 16 and is right now available for a first listen on npr.org.
Mayer Hawthorne’s first release was A Strange Arrangement in 2009.
Since then he’s collaborated with Snoop Dogg and been named as a favorite artist by Kanye West and Justin Timberlake.
Mayer’s been working nonstop since the first record and has earned a worldwide following with successful tracks like “The Walk” and Chromeo cover “Don’t Turn The Lights On.”
My favorite of his songs is “A Long Time” from his 2102 release How Do You Do.
