Both CD copies of my Goldfrapp records Black Cherry and Supernature are almost worn out.
Lush, glamorous club beats, warm loops and Alison Goldfrapp’s gutsy, majestic voice make these records the best electronic collections for warm, sunny weather.
By far the best song of all is from the more downtempo masterpiece release Black Cherry. Also one of my favorite videos… it’s “Strict Machine”!
The album Black Cherry from 2003 is slower-paced than Supernature but still full of electronic drive.
English vocalist-composer Alison Goldfrapp was a fine art painting major at Middlesex University when she sang on Tricky’s landmark record Maxinquaye.
Soon after she appeared on electronic singles by innovative artists Orbital and Avant Hard.
Alison teamed up with composer/multi-instrumentalist Will Gregory and signed to Mute records as Goldfrapp in 1999. Unfortunately, their debut record Felt Mountain, their later acoustic release Seventh Tree and the Xanadu-disco record Head First all pale in comparison to the electro-glam sheen on Supernature and Black Cherry.
Alison Goldfrapp is an art student influenced equally by fantasy and fashion.
Her art-vs-disco glamour style ramps up the sexy, futuristic feel of the songs.
The best dance song from Supernature is “Ride A White Horse.”
The song “Ooh La La” is the big single from Supernature, and for good reason. This sexy, sophisticated track was later sampled on the Miike Snow song “Plastic Jungle.”
Originally you had to get the deluxe edition of Goldfrapp’s best full length Supernature to own the art-pop love song “Number One,” but now it’s on all new printed and digital copies.
Download one of the world’s best electronic dance full-lengths – Goldfrapp’s 2006 release Supernature - here.
Goldfrapp has concert dates coming up this spring and summer. For the latest news check out their official site.
